What is this safari about?

A 10-day privately guided conservation safari through some of the most remote parts of Namibia, including the Skeleton Coast and Kaokoveld.

This is an area which has been largely devoid of any ‘tourism infrastructure’ but we are now able to offer a completely luxury accommodated safari through the region, making exclusive use of conservancy owned or conservancy private sector joint venture establishments. Transfer is in air-conditioned 4x4. This is the first safari of its kind offered by private operators.

This safari is unique in every way and has been carefully considered to give the traveller, the most authentic insight into this region. You will have your own professional and experienced conservancy orientated naturalist guide, who will enhance your experience by making it a fascinating and ‘hands-on’ journey of discovery amidst very dramatic scenery and experiences. Your guide will have an intimate knowledge of each area and camp/lodge that you visit, allowing him to share the local highlights whilst adding continuity and depth to your safari. The presence and companionship of your guide will turn your safari into an experience of a lifetime!

Why is this special?

  • Experience first-hand the world’s single-most successful conservation success story.
  •  Search for desert adapted elephant, rhino and lion along the Hoanib and Hoarusib Rivers.
  • Track the last free roaming population of black rhino on foot.
  • Stay at Namibia’s only wholly owned conservancy lodges, as well as some VERY nice private lodges!
  • Travel through vast tracts of unfenced and pristine wilderness.
  • Visit authentic Himba settlements.

Where is this?

These are Namibia’s most remote regions, with access allowed only to those few who know the area intimately. An area free of game fences and home to some of the most specialized mammals on earth, including desert adapted black rhino, elephant and lions. These areas are also home to the ancient Himba culture. This combined with some of the most spectacular scenery in Namibia, makes for what must be one of the most authentic and pioneering safaris available.

Who can go?

Min of two people and min age of 12 years. Ideal for couples, or small groups of friends, that shares a sense of adventure and a passion for conservation.

What should I expect to pay?

The rates for the 10-day safari start at USD 6 900 per person sharing on a fully inclusive basis. This rate excludes the air transfers required at the start and end of the tour. These will be quoted separately.

What extensions do you recommend?

Extensions to iconic destinations such as Sossusvlei and Etosha would work well, as will an overnight stay in Windhoek.

safariFRANK’s Botswana safaris add another dimension!

What is this safari about?

The ultimate (and only) way to experience the vastness and solitude of the Namib Desert and Skeleton Coast is from the air! Nothing can truly prepare you for this adventure. Fly in a private chartered plane between wilderness camps and see some of the most spectacular sights from the air, many of which is not accessible on land.

The safaris are between four and six days, with overnight stops at selected wilderness camps. Guests are accommodated in exclusive, privately owned, fully equipped tented camps. The camps are comfortable, but basic and each is situated in a spot carefully chosen for its unique beauty.

Why is this special?

  • Flying from camp to camp over Namibia is just VERY special.
  • The only way to really experience the desert and the vastness of it all.
  • Overnighting in private remote wilderness camps, middle of nowhere!
  • Unique photographic opportunities for all.
  • Experience almost all of Namibia in just a few days.

Where is this?

The safari normally starts in Windhoek heading south into the Namib, before returning north up the Skeleton Coast and onto the Kunene River bordering on Angola. On the way stopovers are done at the iconic spots.

The safaris are conducted in an exceptionally beautiful and interesting environment, but the terrain is generally wild, undeveloped and sometimes even rough. It is far from civilization and there is no infrastructure and few roads.

Pick and drop off at locations other than Windhoek is possible on request.

Who can go?

The min number of guests is two and a max of eight. Private tours can be arranged for a min of four guests.

What should I expect to pay?

The rates vary from around USD 1 900 per person per day, to USD 2 200 depending on the route and flying time involved. The rate is fully inclusive except for pick up and drops off other than Windhoek.

What extensions do you recommend?

For private groups extended stopovers at some location such as Sossusvlei, Wolwedans or the Kunene can be arranged.

The flying safari works well with stopovers at some of Namibia’s great lodges, either at the start or end of the tour.

Self Drive Namibia

OUR SAFARIS     DESTINATIONS     ADVENTURES     GALLERY     ABOUT US      BLOGS     CONTACT US

What is this safari about?

Namibia is a vast country even in African standards, twice the size of California! This combined with the very low population, excellent road network and infrastructure, makes for an ideal self drive destination. It allows for an amazingly ‘soulful’ feeling of peace and solitude.

Rent a 4x4 station wagon, or a fully equipped 4x4, plan the itinerary and off you go to wherever you heart desires to discover Namibia’s wide-open spaces! Should you prefer to have some local knowledge on hand, the trip can be escorted or guided. The trip can be lodge to lodge, camping or a combination thereof.

The vehicles are late model, low mileage Toyota Hilux or Land Cruisers, unequipped as standard, or with roof top tents and everything else that you will need should you wish to camp. Vehicles can be fitted with one or two roof top tents, the latter allowing for four people per vehicle.

Why is this special?

  • Independence and freedom to explore!
  • Jaw dropping scenery second to none.
  • Vast and incredible diverse landscapes to explore in your own time.
  • World class self drive game viewing in the Etosha.
  • Great sense of space, tranquility and wilderness.
  • Safe environment and excellent gravel roads, unique in Africa!

Where is this?

Self-drive can go anywhere in Namibia from the Etosha in the North, to the Namib Desert and Fish River Canyon in the South. safariFRANK will work with you to develop an itinerary covering all the MUST see places, as well as your particular interests.

Who can go?

  • Couples, families or small groups with multiple vehicles.
  • Children of any age can go.
  • Adventurers or the less adventurous as diverse locations cater for both!

What should I expect to pay?

Daily rates for a Toyota Hilux or Land Cruiser are from USD 130 and USD 180 respectively for standard vehicles, and USD 150 and USD 200 for fully equipped.  Discounts are available for long rentals.

Due to long distances travelled and good gravel roads travellers should be mindful to keep to speed limits so as to avoid single vehicle accidents.

Vehicle insurance should be carefully checked to ensure comprehensive cover and where possible excesses should be reduced.

What extensions do you recommend?

There are many great lodges to combine with the drive.

In addition cross border self-driving to Botswana could be included.

 Namibian fat-bike safari

Namibian fat-bike safari

OUR SAFARIS     DESTINATIONS     ADVENTURES     GALLERY     ABOUT US      BLOGS     CONTACT US

What is this safari about?

First there was road biking, then came mountain biking. Now there is fat-biking! A new sport as it allows you to go where no bicycle has been able to go before. The fat tires provide a crazy amount of traction. If you have not been on a fat-bike you have not cycled yet! The freedom these bikes allow is insane …

This 9-day/8-night bike trip along the dunes of the Namib Desert is something to put on every cyclists “bucket list”. Not for beginners though. You need to have at least average bike handling skills, you need to be able to sit in the saddle for 8 hours on some days, you need to love nature, be able to handle whatever it throws at you (sandstorm, heat, cold, rain), you need to be able to dig deep, you need to love camping, the outdoors and most importantly – you need to love the desert and sand, lots and lots of sand!! Accommodation includes 7 nights of camping in single pop up tents and one night in a guesthouse in Swakopmund.

There is also an ‘easier’ 5 day trip available, covering some of the Namib and up to Swakopmund, with stays in lodges and guests houses along the way.

Another great trip is a 9-day/8-night tour covering Damaraland in the north and ending in Swakopmund, with stays at various rustic camps and campsites! GREAT adventure with opportunity to see the desert elephant!

Why is this special?

  • REAL adventure crossing some seriously remote sand by bike!
  • Experience the thrill of fat-biking over some of the largest dunes in the world.
  • Explore some of the gems of the desert, not accessible to others.
  • Camp under the stars in true wilderness style, or stay in rustic lodges.
  • Build camaraderie and sense of achievement as a group.

Where is this?

This safari covers some of the most pristine and remote areas left on earth! Traverse the Namib Desert from the south, to Walvisbay in the north, finishing at Swakopmund!  Cycle through dunes and on the beach, sleep out in the open, visit the forsaken remnants of the Diamond towns in the "Sperrgebiet", get close to shipwrecks on the skeleton coast, see seals and Oryx and jackals where the Atlantic meets the dunes.

The tour to the north covers some of the best locations of Damaraland!

Who can go?

Fairly fit, experienced and adventurous cyclists in small groups, with a min of 6 and a max of 12 people. There are a number of scheduled start dates for individual travellers, or groups of less than 6 people.

What should I expect to pay?

The cost for a 9-day tour is around USD 2 500 per person sharing and on a fully inclusive basis based on 8 riders. It includes transfers from Windhoek to and from the Namib, as well as Windhoek Airport.

The 5-day tour is around USD 1500 per person also based on 8 riders.

What extensions do you recommend?

Combine these adventures with some luxury and pampering at a lodge in any of Namibia’s iconic locations!

The Namib Desert horse riding safari, a 10 day trip from near Sossusvlei to Swakopmund on the Atlantic Coast, is the most challenging ride and not for the unfit or faint-hearted, but undeniably the ride of a lifetime!

Most guests choose to sleep out under the glorious southern stars - a very special experience. Large dome tents are however provided, with camp beds and a warm bedroll. Hot bucket showers are available and toilets at all overnight camps.  On the first and last nights on safari stay is in amiable lodges.

Short rides in the Namib are also available, tailor made for small groups and best suited for self drives.

Why is this special?

  • Riding adventure of a lifetime!
  • Imagine crossing 350km across the most spectacular desert!
  • This adventurous ride includes some of the most breath-taking desert landscapes on the planet.
  • Real spirit of adventure and sense of achievement.

Rides are through beautiful scenery of rocky hills, sandy riverbeds, wide-open gravel plains and undulating sand dunes. Sometimes the going can be quite challenging and occasionally you may be required to dismount and walk your horse over rocky sections.  However wide-open spaces suitable for lovely long canters abound. Some rides are challenging, requiring a good sense of humour to see you through the tough moments!  Pace depends on the terrain, the temperatures and the fitness/weight of riders.

Who can go?

To make the most of any of the horseback adventures, riders are advised to have good health and fitness levels (you will certainly get fitter on the ride!).  Riding in a desert demands a degree of physical fitness – these rides are not recommended for inexperience, or unfit riders.

Trips can cover 20 - 60 km a day, often at a fast pace and sometimes over uneven terrain and riders can spend up to six hours or more, in the saddle per day.  For the horses’ sake, this necessitates you be secure and balanced in the saddle and able to maintain an independent seat and kind hands at all paces.
